New England Patriots Breaking All Kinds of Records

View Comments

Mike Reiss posted some notes following the Patriots win over the Dolphins this past Sunday. The post points out the records that the Patriots ended up breaking on Sunday, a few to note are:

PATRIOTS SET NFL RECORD FOR MOST TOUCHDOWNS IN A SEASON

[...]

PATRIOTS HAVE HIGHEST SINGLE-SEASON POINT DIFFERENTIAL IN NFL HISTORY

[...]

PATRIOTS ARE FIRST TEAM TO START A SEASON WITH 15 STRAIGHT WINS

[...]

There are a few more records that Mike listed in his post, but those three are the records that seem to stick-out the most, especially since there is still one more regular season game left to play. And even though Tom Brady and Randy Moss have the chance next week to break the passing touchdown and receiving touchdown records respectively against the Giants, that last record, 15 straight wins, seems the most impressive. It seems unbelievable to think that a team in the free-agency era has the chance to go undefeated, but the Patriots are on the verge of doing just that. It can’t be stated enough that going 16-0 for a NFL team would obviously be an impressive feat, but if in the end the players aren’t hoisting up the Lombardi trophy then the record would mean a lot less to everyone. Len Pasquarelli in his recent ESPN.com article has a great quote from Jabar Gaffney noting this exact sentiment

“But it won’t mean anything unless we win the whole deal. And that has nothing to do with next week. All the records, all the wins, it’s only [validated] if we’re the team holding up the [Vince Lombardi Trophy] at the end.”

Which echos the goal that every team in the NFL sets for themselves in the pre-season: to win it all, to be the last team standing. Again as a fan it would be great to see them go 16-0, but after it’s all said and done if they don’t go 19-0 it would end up being a disappointing season no matter what records have been broken. Tom Brady said it best when he was asked

“What’s your favorite ring?”

“The next one” -Tom Brady

15-1 with a ring would be fine by me, but that isn’t to say 19-0 doesn’t sound even sweeter!

Vacation

View Comments

As is the case with many, I will be on vacation starting at the end-of-business on Friday until the 2nd of January. Though unlike the rest of the population I will not be going anywhere nor will I be doing anything extraordinary. I will be doing the usual stuff such as visiting family and being one of the many to go out on New Years only to realize again that New Years sucks and that it is always an awful time. But my vacation will mainly revolve around the three “R”s: rest, relaxation, and reading. I also plan on playing video games, namely Halo 3 and Guitar Hero 3, and watching a few movies, first and foremost “I Am Legend“. I should point out that I do have a few things that I intend to get done. Including but not limited to purchasing presents for the familia, purchasing a new bookcase, fixing my desktop computer, taking my Macbook Pro to the Apple store to get the battery fixed, and organizing my digital photos.

The desktop computer I have started acting weird on reboot yesterday. By acting weird I mean it wasn’t working. The system would attempt to boot but neither of my monitors would leave standby mode. The motherboard was working fine as the lights were being lit, the hard-drives were spinning, and there wasn’t any warning beeps being emitted from the board. But the keyboard wasn’t able to reset the system using ctrl-alt-del. After spending some time troubleshooting the situation it turned out to be the video card. The boot process would make it far enough for the BIOS to recognize the video card, but then it would immediately stall the boot-up, thus the reason why it wouldn’t interpret the keyboard input. Annoying to say the least, but I ordered another video card from Buy.com, hopefully all will be well.

The Macbook Pro on the other hand has an issue with the battery. After a full-charge I can only get about 40 minutes of standby out of the system. I recently checked the capacity and it was at 39% after a full-charge, meaning the battery is slowly losing its ability to not only be charged but to hold a charge. This issue makes me glad that I’ve begun backing up my Macbook Pro with Time Machine, but I have yet to backup my desktop Vista machine. I think it may be time to go out and purchase a Windows Home Server machine.

Finally I need to move my gallery off of my personal web-server and onto either Flickr or Google’s Picasa Web Gallery. My first job is to organize all the pictures on my NAS drive and then figure out whether to go with Flickr or Google. I might as well back-up the pictures and organize my hard-drive while I’m at it too.

Ahh sounds like a fun little vacation I have planned.

His Wife Comes Second to the Patriots

View Comments

How big a fan? Patriots are No. 1 in his life, his wife No. 2. – The Boston Globe

Calling Pat Noone uncommonly committed to the New England Patriots would be an understatement. Consider this: For more than 30 years, Noone has been driving to games at Foxborough from his home in – wait for it – Pennsylvania.

That right there, that is dedication. Digging out of last-weeks blizzard to attend the Patriots/Jets game at Gillete, that is nothing compared to what this man does. The one question that does come to mind is that: does he not get paid well to be an executive? Wouldn’t he be able to keep his road-rage down and be able to save some time if he just flew? Maybe not, I guess with flying now-a-days with all the delays and security issues it may turn out that flying is likely to cause more stress and more anger then typical road-rage.

The house he shares with his long-suffering wife has a replica of the Pats locker room, and it even includes a urinal.

A replica of the Pats locker room? Weird. A urinal? Genius!

I’ve Only Been Gone For A Little Less Then Four Months

According to Wiktionary ‘procrastination’ is defined as

The act of postponing, delaying or putting off, especially out of habitual carelessness or laziness.

Ahem.

That is all.
