What a Weekend to be a New England Sports Fan
It would be quite outrageous on my behalf to not mention the past weekend in terms of being a Redsox and/or a Patriots fan. It’s not often where the Yankees losing 5 of 6 to the Redsox wouldn’t be the headline on the sports page in Boston, but that’s exactly what happened this past weekend. Now that everyone has had time to digest the trade there’s been a variety of different takes by the media and football fans in general. There’s been talk that the Patriots are not their usual selves, their stepping out of the team mentality, that their the “New England Yankees”, that their changing their standards.ShaughnessyDan Shaughnessy in his recent article “This is a huge change from their usual route” says:
Say goodbye to that high moral ground, Bob. The Patriots this weekend put their standards on the shelf in the quest for victory. They might be the best team in football, but the Patriots are no longer “different” from all the other NFL organizations.
I’m being biased when I say this, as would any fan of any team they support, but I don’t think that’s really the case here. I’m not disagreeing that Moss isn’t the typical Patriot, but the idea that their no longer a “different” NFL organization can’t be further from the truth. As a organization they got a player to agree to take a major pay-cut, to put his job on the line. He didn’t get a signing-bonus, he was made aware that the Patriots would cut him at the first sign of a problem. Here you have this organization that has the ability to convince an athlete, in our current world of money is everything, to take this pay-cut. It shows that he’s willing to take the risk to believe in what the coach and the rest of the organization are preaching. Not to mention this man was a bargain. Our receiving core was upgraded dramatically before him, thus if Moss does anything wrong it won’t be painful to release him. All you would have lost is a fourth round draft pick, if that’s not smart business I don’t know what is. It’s weird to be so excited about the NFL season with it just being April.
Randy Moss a Patriot!
Randy Moss a New England Patriot!
I don’t think a lot of people saw this coming. I was surprised that this was even a rumor a few months ago. It’s even more surprising with the large number of receivers that the Patriots picked up during the off-season that they would attempt to trade for Moss. But it seems that they went with it and I’m sure most of the fans around here are more psyched then anything. Not only because Brady is going to have some solid receivers to deal to but also because the Patriots only gave up a 4th round pick for Moss. F’n Ridick.

Short Drive: Show yanked after two episodes – CNN.com
Short Drive: Show yanked after two episodes – CNN.com
It’s been a short “Drive” for Fox’s midseason drama, which has been pulled off the schedule after two weeks on the air.
Two-weeks. After all the god-damn advertisement, the build-up, it took two-weeks to kill off the show. I can’t say I’m surprised, the show looked as much fun to watch as watching moss grow on a rock. Let me just point out why I brought this up: I don’t have a hatred for Fox, sure their the epitome of white-trash television with an abundant of shitty dramas and even shittier reality shows (Cops), but they have had and do have a few decent shows in their portfolio (Family Guy). But I hate Fox when it comes to sports, they are just plain awful. I’m not a fan of the god-damn commentators and plain and simple not a fan of the broadcast. Especially baseball, I can’t cite how many times they’ve come back from commercial to miss the first or even the second pitch of the inning. It’s an absolute embarrassment. The most notable was about 4 years ago when Manny hit a homerun during the ALCS at the top of an inning. Fox comes back from a commercial to show Manny chugging around the bases, it was awful. Why do I bring that up? Because for the past few weeks every time you attempted to watch baseball on Fox you would be absolutely bombarded with those advertisements for Drive. Not just during the commercial breaks, but also while the game was being played. And not to sound like even more of a jackass, but that show looked absolutely awful. I mean the person who gave the green light for the project had to have been on some sort of drug binge, starting from when the script was read till post production on episode one. So do I feel bad the show was cancelled? No, I praise it because Fox keeps making dumb mistakes. What other dumb mistakes have they made? Cancelling such fantastic shows as “Arrested Development” and “Undeclared”. I’m just sad they’ll replace Drive with some other asinine show to advertise during sporting events, maybe “Are you smarter then a dog?”
Lazy
I’m being honest here when I say I’m just plain lazy and it’s just not in reference to this site. I can use excuses such as I have A.D.D when it comes to everything, which is partly true. I’m one of those people who puts a lot of time and energy initially into anything, but once the initial oomph wears off I become quite otiose with the activity. I’m trying to make amends with this. I’ve been keeping track of errands and work related items in a to-do book and I’m adding “update blog” and “upgrade blog” to this list. As I’ve mentioned before it’s difficult to be anything more then lethargic when I get home from work. Even my routine of going to the gym has been stricken with my laziness. But I’m hoping I can change all of that…
